The main difference of a Bluray, DVD or TV re-recording in comparison with a theatrical re-recording is that it has reduced dynamic range. A theatrical re-recording is produced for big cinema halls and at a certain volume level, it should sound the same in all equally measured theaters. The dynamic range of this type of re-recording is very large; That is to say that the difference between loud and low areas can be very clear. As a matter of fact, this is used to create the desired movie experience in a theater. In comparison to this, a DVD or a Bluray is played back in relatively small living rooms. If one would play the theatrical mix at a ratio of 1:1, one would repeatedly have to turn the volume up and down, because the dialogues can suddenly become too loud or the atmospheres too low.
